In these uncertain economic times, bridal couples in the midst of wedding planning are keeping a close eye on the expenses they incur.  They’re trimming down their disc jockey packages and their videographer packages, and they are doing away with open bars and wedding favors among others.  But there’s also another strategy they can use to save money – finding wedding freebies.

Many wedding companies offer free items to promote their company, products and/or services. By doing some research on the web (for example, searching for the keywords “free wedding stuff” or “wedding freebies”) brides can find valuable products as well as samples and coupons.  Some examples of what can be found out there are: free wedding planners, wedding planning software, wedding webpages, magazines, catalogues, e-books, free wedding invitation templates, beauty care products, and a whole lot more.

Here are some resources to find free wedding stuff.  Just copy and paste the following web addresses into the web browser:

SuperWeddings.com: http://www.superweddings.com/freestuff.html

KillerFreebies.com: http://www.killerfreebies.com/wedding.shtml

Freebies4ya.com: http://www.freebies4ya.com/freebies/love.asp

About.com: http://freebies.about.com/od/weddingfreebies/Wedding_Freebies.htm

Free wedding webpage at theKnot.com: http://weddings.theknot.com/pwp/pwp_offers.aspx?offers=1&target=

As can be seen there is no shortage of resources for brides to find and discover great free products.  With a little bit of effort, brides can save a ton of money.  And they’ll be surprised to see quality items for free.  As an example of what can be found out there, take a look at the following:

PashWeddings.com offers its readers a variety of free wedding invitation templates.  These templates come in suites, meaning for each design brides not only get a template for their wedding invitation, but also for their rsvp card, save the date card, reception card, placecards, table card, wedding party card, program covers and menu.  This enables brides to neatly tie in all their wedding stationery with one elemental design.  With the many designs that are on offer, the bridal couple is certain to pick one that best showcases their style and personality.

PashWeddings.com also offers readers its popular and, of course, free wedding planner that can be downloaded in a .pdf format.  That makes it easy for the bride to print out the planner and use the worksheets as she interviews various wedding vendors, such as disc jockeys, florists, photographers, caterers, coordinators, etc.  Included in the planner is: a vendor contact list, ceremony program worksheet, wedding budget worksheet, wedding scheduler, questions to ask vendors, a list of photographic poses, emergency kit list, and a whole lot more.  In all, it’s 89 pages of valuable information that’ll help the bride stay organized, stay focused, and stay calm. Beach weddings are incredibly popular, especially for a laid back, casual wedding. So when it comes to considering your wedding favors in your wedding planning it would be a good idea to make them fun as well. Everyone will have received candles or stuffed themselves on cookie favors at previous weddings, so why not give your guests something they can utilize there and then?

Here are a few ideas for fun beach favors to consider:

Fans: Perfect for keeping your guests cool on a hot day on the beach. Choose from folding styles or paddle versions, many of which can be personalized with your names and wedding date. As an alternative idea why not have paddle fans printed with your wedding program or menu?

Baseball Caps/Sun Hats: We are always being told to cover up in the sun so make sure none of your guests get sunburnt (on their heads at least) and give them colorful baseball or sun hats. Again these can be printed with your names and wedding date or if your budget will stretch to it have them embroidered for a nicer finish.

You could choose to split your favors between male and female, choosing primary colored baseball caps for the boys and pretty sun hats for the girls. Don’t forget any children whom you may have invited as well.

Flip-flops: If you are planning on having some of your reception actually on the beach – you may possibly be having your meal on a more stable surface a few feet away – then give your guests some suitable footwear to play around in! This will go down especially well with your female guests who may not fancy ruining their Jimmy Choo’s in the sand!

You can buy flip-flops in standard sizes fairly cheaply from wholesalers and you could probably coordinate them with your wedding colors or simply go blue for the boys and pink for the girls. Arrange them in large baskets according to size at the top of the beach where your guests can find them. You may want to politely ask your guests shoe size in a note on your RSVP cards so you have a good idea of which sizes to buy.

Parasols: Beautiful paper and wood parasols with their bright colors and pretty designs would add a stunning element to your wedding. Imagine your photographs with an array of pretty parasols in the background! You could probably pick these up fairly inexpensively through wholesalers or perhaps take a look around Asian supermarkets.

You should be able to match colors with your wedding or buy a selection of pretty designs. As with the flip-flips you could leave them in a basket somewhere where your guests will find them with a note asking them to help themselves, with your thanks.

Bucket and Spade: Perhaps a little childish but imagine the fun when you tell your guests you are having a sandcastle building competition and the winner receives a bottle of champagne. My guess is many will rise to the challenge! Include plans for it in your wedding planning when you think about your entertainment and reception schedule. Plastic buckets and spades are very inexpensive and if your guests have children they will always come in useful again after the wedding!

Talented amateur photographers and videographers with an entrepreneurial spirit should consider making the jump to offering professional-level services.    Because of the steady work, you’ll find that wedding photography and michigan wedding videographer are the foundation of many of professional photography and videography business.

One significant advantage of this field is that people are always going to get married.    Bad economies may affect the scale of weddings, but wedding videos and pictures aren’t usually sacrificed when cutting costs.

Few events match the scale of a wedding; so getting word-of-mouth recommendations is vital to growing a business. The best place to get your first clients to help build your portfolio is friends and family.  Make sure to share your aspirations with others, and don’t be shy about showing your photo and video work to get people excited about using your skills.  Never miss an opportunity to show off your skills, and always carry business cards to increase your chances of gaining a client.

If you haven’t had an opportunity to film weddings before, don’t worry. Take your camera to the next family wedding and take some pictures during the ceremony and reception, if appropriate.    It is best to avoid getting in the way of the hired michigan wedding photographer staff and videographers, of course.  Even if you’re only able to get candid photos –which is most likely – it will still give prospective clients a reference point.  Create a website for yourself, showing off your best work.  Investigate how to optimize Internet searching in your local area so you get as much traffic to your site as possible.

A great way to market yourself is to develop your own personal style. Many photographers specialize in certain styles.  Your style is as individualized as your personality, so it is difficult to categorize styles.  Just like furniture and clothing, photography and videography can be modern or vintage, formal and informal.  Perhaps you specialize in candid photography, or excel at traditional, formalized photography.  In the case of videography, perhaps you have a cutting edge style with quick cuts.  Regardless, identify your core strengths and try to build upon them.  It is no use trying to be all things for all people, especially in the crowded field of photography and videography.  Do what you do best, and then become the best.
