While grand, $10,000 diamond-paved Liberace-style men’s wedding rings do exist, they’re few and far between. Hence, men’s wedding bands tend to be simple, unadorned gold or silver — basic and functional. But don’t condemn the guys as cheap, unromantic clods; usually, the plainness of the average man’s wedding ring stems from other considerations. Men generally stick with plain rings because they’re traditional, they’re not showy, and, frankly, because they’d rather spend their money on their girls.

In this day and age, though, you have lots of choices — so tradition can go out the window if you want it to, without tossing away more money than you need to. If you put a little thought into it, you can find a perfect, eye-catching ring that won’t cost you any more than a traditional gold band. In fact, it might cost a good bit less.

For example, titanium wedding rings are hot choices for men these days, and for good reason. Titanium is a light, lustrous metal that’s surprisingly inexpensive; you can easily get a beautiful titanium ring for less than $200. Another reason to buy a titanium ring is because of its amazing toughness, a plus for any man who works or plays hard. Titanium is so strong and light, in fact, that it’s heavily used in the aerospace industry.

If you don’t mind spending a little more money (and really, it doesn’t take much more), platinum wedding rings are always good options. Unlike its cousin silver, which it’s often found with in its raw state, platinum never tarnishes — and it’s much, much tougher. Platinum’s a very hard, resistant metal, which makes it more than a match for any ordinary circumstances.

If you can’t bring yourself to pick something really fancy, you can always stick with a gold or silver ring, but it hardly has to be plain. A glittering diamond here and there can make a huge difference, and isn’t likely to break the bank. So why not go for something out of the ordinary? There’s a huge selection of men’s wedding rings to choose from out there, and they don’t have to break the bank.
