Couples usually end up getting divorced whenever they marry for reasons other than true love. When they search for a spouse, they mistakenly look for someone who they think is going to make them happy. Instead, people should focus on getting married to someone who they can’t live without and who they would do anything to make happy over the years. Marriages work out much better when you are willing to ensure that your partner is happy even before you are happy yourself.
If you’re looking for the strength to pull this off, then you only have to look at the Bible. There are all types of problems that you can experience in your marriage, so relying on these pieces of advice will help considerably.
1. Mark 8:36 – “What good is it for a man to gain the whole world yet forfeit his own soul?” Married partners do not have to give up their own identities in order to live for their spouses.
2. I Corinthians 13:4&5 – “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” This verse is pretty straightforward, so make sure that you read it and understand it completely.
3. I Corinthians 7:27 – “Are you married? Do not seek a divorce.” In this verse God plainly tells you what He expects. To divorce is to directly go against His will, no matter what the mores of the world may tell you.
4. Proverbs 15:17 – “Better a meal of vegetables where there is love than a fattened calf with hatred.” Troubles with finances is definitely not a reason to separate. If you truly love your spouse, you can get through the hard times.
5. Luke 6:37 – “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven”. Although this message was delivered specificaly in regards to people you view as enemies, it also applies to those who you love too.
