The cost of wedding favors can soon mount up unless you learn to be become budget conscious & a savvy shopper!

Here are ten ways in which you can save money on your Wedding favors.

  1. Hit the Sales: Sales happen many times throughout the year & provide the perfect opportunity to bag your wedding favors at a greatly reduced price. Check out high street stores as well as online wedding favor stores. Bookmark the latter & check back regularly or sign up for email updates so you know when the sales are on.
  2. Wholesalers: Buying from a wholesaler can be a particularly good way to save on favors especially if you are having a big wedding. Be careful though, as it may only prove cost effective for 200 plus guests, you don’t want to end up with hundreds of wedding favors that you have no use for.
  3. Promotions: You will probably find any number of promotions from online favor stores throughout the year. The only difficulty can be in catching the right one at the right time! Find a selection of favor stores you like & sign up for email updates so you know when promotions happen. You may benefit from a great deal just by waiting, however, this can be a risky tactic as you may not get your favors in time for the wedding.
  4. Make your own: You can make any number of wedding favors yourself, such as CD’s, cookies, cupcakes, seed packets & even soaps. Whilst you may have to pay out for the equipment you will need to create them, on a cost per item basis you will save over the cost of ready made versions from the stores.
  5. Buy from Ebay: There is no doubt that Ebay can offer just about everything the heart desires & wedding favors are no exception! You will likely find the same ranges as in the private favor stores but you may well find them cheaper. Also check out the wholesale section for bulk purchases. Word of caution though, check out the seller first & their rating, check the cost of shipping & always pay through paypal to take advantage of their buyer protection scheme.
  6. Buy more than you need: In tip 2 I advised against buying from a wholesaler unless you had more than 200 guests. However, buying more than you need could work in your favor. Consider buying enough favors for 200 guests even though you only have 100 guests & then selling the rest on through sites like Ebay. You will save on the overall cost of the favors by buying wholesale & get your money back by selling on the excess!
  7. Duel role favors: Don’t buy wedding favors & separate place card holders. Instead turn your wedding favors into your place cards by adding the guests names with a tag or label. Alternatively save money on your table centers by using your favors; pile them up in a decorative dish or on a plate & place on your tables so your guests can help themselves.
  8. Don’t buy for everyone: It is a fact that not everyone will take their favors home with them, either because they forget them or simply don’t want them. Avoid this happening by only buying a certain number of favors, say two thirds of the number you actually need. You can place them on a table at the entrance to the reception room at the end of the evening & let guests pick them up on their way out.
  9. Double up: This entails buying one favor per couple & of course one for each single guest. Simple favors such as photo frames work well for this.
  10. Check out best price guarantees: As you browse the online favor stores you will probably notice many of them guaranteeing to have the cheapest prices available. This is a big statement so check it out by doing your own bit of price comparison work. If you find that favors are actually cheaper from someone else then look at the shipping costs & add them to the overall cost. You can then go to the more expensive vendor & negotiate a discount on the price for purchasing through them rather than the other vendor. This may seem cheeky but it can achieve surprising results as part of your Wedding planning!
