Planning a budget for a wedding will bring to light a a sad truth that most people are do not know. The fact is that even the most simplest wedding can add up to at least $10,000 dollars really fast. If you find yourself planning a wedding and the price is beyond your reach, there is no reason to panic. You will need to buckle down, get some organizational skills, put together a good budget and plan on doing some of the preparing yourself.

The first thing you will need to do is set up a realistic budget that you will be able to stick to. When setting your budget, try to be realistic, if you cannot count the funds at that moment, do not include it in you budget. By being practical, you will leave the opening for pleasant surprises later as opposed to disappointments. You must remember that with the planning of every wedding comes some unforeseen roadblocks.

Communication with your future life partner and anyone involved in your planning should be a top priority. You should never assume that anyone will do something that was not verbalized. The best way to avoid issues of miscommunication is to keep a checklist of what needs to be done and who has been delegated to follow through with every task. Without proper communication you will leave too many things to chance and Murphy’s law will take over; ”whatever can go wrong will go wrong”.

Depending on your budget, you will have to decide where you can afford to cheat on in order to save money. One of the easiest place you can spend less is by either paying the wedding planner by the hour or getting some wedding decoration ideas with a do it yourself wedding manual.

If you decide to use a wedding planner, you should make sure to put together a list of jobs for them to do. You should also have an idea of how many hours that you are willing to pay for and have them sign an agreement not to exceed a certain limit. Using your wedding planner sparingly will put a little more responsibility on you shoulders, but on the other hand it will free up some money for use in other areas.

Another place you can save money is the reception. Instead of renting a big reception hall, you may be able to hold the reception in a historical home, park or public gardens. To avoid your reception spot being overbooked, you should decide and book your reception space 90 days in advance.

Lastly, you can spend less money on your wedding dress by buying a dress off the rack or even searching newspapers for deals. You may find someone that has a dress for sale for a wedding that was postponed or just could not fit their dress and had to purchase another. Whatever the reasons, you may luck up and pick up a great deal.

Planning a wedding on a budget will take a great amount of creativity, but if you plan everything meticulously, you will be able to find several areas that you can tap to save you some money. In the long run, the money saved can be put towards the more important aspects of your wedding, whatever is most important to you.
